�Asian Junior Championship Kicks off in style with a surprise
The Asian Taekwondo Championship kicked off in the beautiful Island of Kish in the I. R. of Iran with 15 countries.
All the continent power houses � Iran, Korea, Thailand, China, Chinese Taipei and Jordan, along with other teams are taking advantage of this great opportunity before the WTF World Championship and the Youth Olympic Qualifications in Mexico to themselves ready for those two world events.
The opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship that was attended by Dr. Dai Soon Lee- ATU President- Prof. Kyu Seok Lee � ATU Secretary General � Mr. Dai Won Kang- ATU Vice President and other ATU and Governmental dignitaries was held one November 19 one day prior to the championship.
The first day of competition held a mild surprise in the male division where Korea came short of getting a gold medal and Thailand had a strong showing with 2 Gold medals and a Bronze.
The third Gold went to Iran that also had a Silver medal and a Bronze.
Korean had 2 Silver and one Bronze followed by Jordan, Japan, China and Kazakhstan with one Bronze each.
In the Females division the Korea team once again showed its superiority and came up with 3 Golds and the Thailand with one Gold and the Iranian team scoring its first ever Asian Gold medal.
This championship will be continued tomorrow and will finish on November 23.
