Nepal bags bronze in 3rd Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship
KATHMANDU, Nepal -- Sandesh Gurung has won the first junior bronze medal for Nepal in the 3rd Junior Asian Taekwondo Championships held in Almaty City, Kazakhstan from August 19 to 21.
Fifteen-year-old Gurung, who currently studies in the US, lost to an Australian opponent in the semifinals match. He had defeated a Jordanian player in the quarterfinals. "This medal is very important for me," Gurung said. "I was very happy and proud when my country's flag was hoisted during the victory ceremony."
Nepal was also awarded with an Active Participants trophy in the tournament. Twenty-one countries had participated in the competition. (dds) .
